Late Summer/Fall 2009 Newsletter

Knitting & Crocheting: It’s been hard to think about holding wool in our hands during the dog days of summer but we have various alternatives. Corn fiber is on sale at 25% off in a variety of colors. Other products perfect for this weather are soy silk, bamboo and cottons. Our newest yarn is Sea Song by Fibranatura is 80% cotton and 20% sea cell. This is a sea kelp fiber by-product and 109 yards are $9. We have fresh new colors of Bella DK Tapestry baby yarn, machine wash & dry, 404 yards for $7 which means you can make a 36” square blanket for less than $25. We also have new colors of Mermaid, (another yarn by Fibranatura which is 42% cotton, 35% superwash merino, 12% silk, 11% sea cell) and Fixation, a cotton & elastic, which is popular for socks and baby items.

Weaving: We now stock the Cricket Loom by Schacht. This kit includes an 11" rigid heddle loom, 2 stick shuttles, a warping peg, threading hook, 2 table clamps, 8 dent reed and 2 balls of yarn with project instructions, all for $135. This is a great way to introduce weaving to young and old alike and it’s small enough to fit in a large tote bag for travelers. We have a new shipment on the way of bamboo, mop cotton and 8/2 cottons. Stop by and see all the new colors.

Quilts: We are approaching the end of our stash with only six queen/king left and about a dozen wall hangings. 40% off is as low as they will go so last chance… we will pull them from stock very soon.

Hat Program: We still have many volunteers making hats and scarves for this rapidly approaching fall and winter but we always need yarn. So any that you have left over from projects please keep us in mind. Last year our focus was on the homeless and we will continue to support them through St. Vincent DePaul, but we’ve had so many calls from other worthy organizations that we will do some prioritizing this year and try to spread our works across this valley. We are so grateful for your continued support. One lady has made 180 hats so far this year!!
